The figure released by China Hotel Market Outlook 2011 highlights that the new rooms will be contributed by major international hotel chains and will be located in up to 30 major cities, China Daily reported.
According to a Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels report, cross-border investment in the APAC region has picked up by up to 119 percent over the first six months of 2011 and China attracted up to $339 million in investment activity.
The hotel group’s senior vice president Hans Galland told the newspaper that at the end of 2010, major international hotel chains including Starwood, Hilton and Marriott provided up to 160,000 rooms, an increase of 60 percent from figures in 2005.
"The increase will continue and the country will have at least 240,000 guest rooms in international hotels by 2013," Mr Galland explained.
Meanwhile, the Jones Lang LaSalle report found that Singapore and Australia were also favoured by investors over the beginning of this year, with investment activity rising by up to $1.02 billion and $478 million.
“Natural disasters occurring early in the year in Australia, New Zealand and Japan have done little to quell investor enthusiasm across the region, with the recovery efforts well underway and more stable market conditions are now evident in many of the affected markets,” the report read.
