The Haikou Eadry Royal Garden Hotel, the only 5-star hotel in China’s Hainan Province, debuted earlier this fall in Lingshan, Haikou City.

BLVD International, an architectural and interior design firm with offices in Beijing and Shenzhen, aimed to reinterpret the essence of Chinese royal architecture while establishing a prime example of a new Chinese style in the 305-key, 633,510-sq-ft (58,855-sq-m) hotel. A symmetrical complex of buildings showcases a garden as a centerpiece, while inside a traditional Chinese color scheme dominates. Traditional Chinese architecture inspired the timber structure of the entrance lobby, and an ancient theme continues with a Sanshui ink painting in the hotel’s central lobby.

Most suites enjoy private courtyards designed to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor space. Guestrooms names include Suite of Benevolence and Suite of Heart Preservation and feature other unique details. The Suite of Peace, for example, boasts a Chinese ink painting representing a magnificent landscape, while in the Suite of Harmony six sliding door panels glide into a closed position to reveal an ink painting of a mountain shrouded in cloud and fog.
