The first capsule-themed hotel on the Chinese mainland has been fully booked following its debut in Xi"an, Shanxi province on Tuesday, the Chinanews.com reports.

The capsule in Xi"an has a total of 86 cabins in 9 areas, and every cabin is equipped with a TV, a dresser, a computer desk and wireless broadband. In addition, self-service washing machines, a mini supermarket and leisure areas are also provided for common use.

One of the unique features of the hotel is the arrangement of cabins in accordance with the order of constellations. In order to provide a restful sleeping environment, the "Leo Zone" is especially designed for guests who snore.

Li ying, a psychology teacher at the Shanxi Normal University, said that along with the prevalence of self-driving tours, the hotel industry is stepping into a micro-scale era, where mini-hotels are attracting a growing number of young people with their cozy, convenient and economical features.

The "Capsule hotel" concept originated in Japan, featuring a large number of extremely small "rooms" intended to provide cheap and basic overnight accommodation for office workers who need emergency accommodation.
