New GM Appointments See First Female General Manager Appointed For Sofitel Hotels In Australia

  Sofitel Luxury Hotels has welcomed its first woman to the role of General Manager in Australia, following several new GM moves at its Queensland hotels and an international relocation for General Manager Tony Chisholm next month to the highly anticipated Sofitel So Singapore.

  Sofitel Luxury Hotels has welcomed its first woman to the role of General Manager in Australia, following several new GM moves at its Queensland hotels and an international relocation for General Manager Tony Chisholm next month to the highly anticipated Sofitel So Singapore.

  Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach is proud to announce the appointment of Amery Burleigh to the role of GM, effectively making her the first female General Manager in any Sofitel Australia wide. Ms Burleigh joins the Gold Coast team straight from two years as Executive Assistant Manager at sister property, Sofitel Brisbane Central.

  She replaces Marcus Hanna who has been appointed General Manager of the Sofitel Brisbane Central, effective June 2012.

  Sofitel Brisbane Central’s current General Manager Tony Chisholm will relocate to Singapore in June, and is excited to become General Manager of the contemporary ‘boutique hotel’ labelled Sofitel So Singapore. Set to open in mid 2013, the Sofitel So Singapore will become the latest addition to the luxury network in Asia, and the world’s third Sofitel So label hotel following the Sofitel So Mauritius (designed in collaboration with Kenzo Takada) and the Sofitel So Bangkok (with Monsieur Christian Lacroix) launched in February this year.

  Located at 35 Robinson Road, a heritage building in the heart of Singapore’s CBD, Sofitel So Singapore will provide a unique blend of French elegance and the spirit of art-de-vivre with local charm and will cater to business and leisure travellers seeking the ultimate in style, luxury, culture and comfort, while keeping the essence and prestige of the 35 Robinson Road building intact.

  About Marcus Hanna

  Previously the General Manager for Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach, Hanna brings a wealth of experience to Brisbane’s largest luxury property with previous appointments in London, Malta and San Francisco. Prior to his move to Queensland, Marcus oversaw the opening of Pullman Sydney Olympic Park, the first property of its type in the Pacific. An avid rower, Hanna has represented Australia at the world rowing championships; and is looking forward to returning to the water in Brisbane, where he was a member of the Australian rowing squad in the early 90’s. Marcus will relocate to Brisbane with his wife Kelly and young son Daniel.

  About Amery Burleigh

  Amery Burleigh has many a years experience in five-star hotels which started in Silicon Valley at The Fairmont Hotel. She then joined Fours Seasons Hotels and Resorts and over a 10 year span, worked her way up through all areas of Food and Beverage in Seattle, Atlanta, Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Sydney properties to Director of Food and Beverage. Joining Accor in 2007, Burleigh worked briefly at Mercure Sydney as Director of Food and Beverage before moving to Novotel Brisbane where she held the role as Hotel Manager.
